This is the piece I am most proud of from this semester. When I first started this piece I honestly thought it was going to be one of those projects that just made more sense in my head. I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to portray the exact emotions as strongly as I wanted to. I had also never painted on any type of glass before, so this was very out side of my comfort zone. I ended up loving the way I could paint on both sides of this piece to add another layer of depth. I think I captured the essence of pure chaos, anxiety, and feelings that go along with having an internal identity crisis. This piece was one of my first expressive pieces, one that I feel actually has a deep meaning within it. My first oil painting was probably one of the most frustrating things I have ever done in an art class. I eventually fell in love with working with oil, but I chose a very complex composition as my first ever piece. I learned that unlike acrylic, oil paint is something you have to plan pretty well before diving into a piece. It also stains everything it comes into contact with, so in the future that's something I should remember. I learned how to achieve more depth in my pieces, something I struggled with when using acrylic. It also taught me the importance of color in a piece. Since a lot of my work in oil involved the blending of multiple colors, I had to pay close attention to what I was putting where, the shades of a color, and how to mix what I needed using warm or cool tones. Art three was a whole mess of new experiences for me. I learned a lot about myself as an artist and what I enjoy creating. I learned how to express myself through artwork, something I did not think I could actually pull off. I learned how to teach myself how to do things, how to take risks, and how to wing it (or should I say improvise) when things got a little tough. I wish I had a bit more time for my last few pieces, but I think overall it was a very successful class. I don't know what I would have done with out this art class. I have met some amazing people, and was exposed to different art forms that I will most definitely be continuing in the future. Although my major in college is not art related, I look forward to taking the passion and technique I learned from this class with me into the future.
